the shady snake

rachel bush | September 15th, 2008 | No Comments

I would like to create- (or see someone else create)a type of shaded hat type head covering umbrella type thing attached to a snake light bend able post (but not necessarily with the light-although it would be good for readers) with a strong clip at the end for attaching to lawn chairs while sunbathing-there could also be a little mini fan in the center of the head shade to provide added comfort for those extra hot days-you could even go as far as putting a ‘misty-mate mister’ for even more comfort….?

PVC Submarine

Rex Davenport | September 15th, 2008 | 5 Comments

I\’m working on a PVC submarine (3 in. diameter) and was wondering if someone could help me to figure out how to build a relatively inexpensive watertight compartment to house the guts. Keep in mind I\’m going to have to have the motors in it too so I\’m wondering how to run the drive shafts from the motors to the props.

Stationary Cell Phone Antenna

Bruce Franco | September 8th, 2008 | 3 Comments

We have lake house in Maine where I can get just enough Verizon celluar signal to receive text messages, but not enough to receive email or make a phone call. Does anyone know how I might be able to receive, amplify (or concentrate), and transmit (or direct feed into my cell) a stronger signal? …or possibly know of a commercial antenna system that might do the job?

Thanks,

Solid state memory

Russell Mayo | September 8th, 2008 | 4 Comments

I wish I knew more than basic electronics! I would love to build a solid state 128gb drive thats uses 4 X 32 gb SD cards for a laptop. I can’t see why it would not be possible since card readers already treat SD cards like external memory.

It would be light, fast, cheap, conserve battery power, and would not require too much alteration of an existing laptop. Anyone brave enough to take on the challenge?

Long-distance USB or Firewire

Arthur | September 2nd, 2008 | 4 Comments

I’d like some way to be able to send the digital output of video cameras to a video switcher several hundred feet away. I was thinking of some sort of simple modulation-demodulation system, perhaps by cannibilizing cordless land phones. Or would using an original scratch design be easier?

Any thoughts?
