How I do stuff.

Want to make sure ppl in your house cannot use the phone? Its easy. Just take a 2 outlet modular adapter (279-407) and a short piece of phone cord (279-390) plug both ends of the modular line cord into the the adapter. Plug that adapter into any open phone jack in the house. now all the phones in the house are disabled until you remove it. No calls can be made or recieved. no harm is done to the telephone systems.

Good Job! Great way to keep the kids off the phone.

You can also use the phone cord + a switch. (275-612 but any non-’momentary’ switch will do) Cut one end of the cord off, and connect red cable to 1 lead, and green to the other. Then you can switch your system on/off. I used this on 2nd floor when a computer in the basement was still using a dial-up modem. Too lazy to go down and disconnect. The noise the switch made turning on and off (sometimes repeatedly to get desired effect) would interfere and cause the dial-up session to error out/disconnect.

Or I would leave it on so people wouldn’t call…

Untill somebody tries this on a digital PPX, or Keyswitch. Then they will wonder why $200-400 in damage has occurred to their phone system. Granted 95% of all people have POTs lines with no phone system, but the one that does will certainly try this and POW.
