Stuff I've done.

Magellan, Mio and Navigon use Windows based GPS’s. Therefore it is possible to make them do more than they are made for. I have done the following on my Magellan GPS’s.

-Gained access to the Windows CE desktop
-Installed a video player that can play MP4 Divx and Xvid video
-Installed Solitare
-installed Notepad

For a Magellan Maestro Series GPS attach it via USB cable (26-176 if you dont have one). Go into the Application folder (May be called something different) Inside will be a file called Navigator.exe. Rename it MyNavigator.exe. Find a Windows CE 5.0 Filemanager program online. they are easy to find. copy the fileman files to the folder and rename the application Navigator.exe. Now your GPS will start to the file manager and allows you a windows like access to all files. you can from here load the GPS software (MyNavigator.exe) or load the TCPMP software… this is the video playback program. Easy to find online for free. There is also a program called softbutton that will allow easy switching back and forth between the two apps.

Robert, that’s pretty cool. Does this hinder the performance of the unit at all? I’ve got a Navigon 2100 and it’s slow enough on its own (I attribute that to the WinCE, personally). I couldn’t deal with it being slower than it already is.

I am actually a RS associate. I have actually unlocked over 10 different types of GPS units. My favorite unlock was the mio c230, was on sale for $129.99 and if you google mio c230 hack and click the first link you can just see the possibilities of what you can do with these great devices!
