Stuff I want to do.

I have allways wanted to see in the dark ever since I played “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell” years back. I have done research since then and understand that night vison goggles are simply infered goggles with infered light comming off of it. I have seen two disigns for these goggles. one is using a disposable camcorder’s LCD screen, and the other (kipkay’s) is using welder’s goggles with red and blue lenses. these were infered goggles but i’m pretty sure if I add on infered LED’s on it, it’ll work.

I will do this this project if:

1. if I can find the right materials
2. if i can get the money needed (just about every dollar i earn goes towards my car)
3. IF I CAN GET CONFRIMATION THAT THE INFERED WELDER’S GOGGLES WILL BECOME NIGHT VISION GOGGLES IF I ADD INFERED LED’S.

this website is too cool. i would like to do some other projects too. i’m interested in “spy-like” gadgets. things like laser tripwire systems, hidden microphones and cameras, and disgiused gadgets (like james bond’s watch that allways can do something special)

i doubt that welders goggles will become night vision goggles. just my hunch, i have no evidence.

Unfortunately Infrared Goggles are not that simple. Even if the welder goggles allow the infrared light to pass through them, you eyes cannot see the infrared spectrum of light. There is an awesome book you should check it. It is all about spy stuff. 99 Spy Gadgets for the Evil Genius. Nearly everything you mentioned in you post is covered in this book. They even tell you how to make real infrared goggles from a old Video Camera eyepiece and various other scrounged components.

I don’t know about the welder’s goggles, but you’ll want to use more than just a few IR LEDs. You want the IR light to shine out in front of you so it will illuminate what you are looking at. LED’s don’t shine that far, an IR LED flashlight might work better.

I just got back from w-mart toy dept.where I saw a pair of toy infrared binoculars that do the same thing . They’re like $20.00.
Worth a look to save money. No?

I believe that this will work but you need an awful lot of LEDs
