Stuff I've done.

I got to thinking about the various government programs which allege to protect us against terrorism and the like. That caused me to wonder if there wasn’t something the average person could do on an individual basis to help protect America.

I started tinkering around with some off-the-shelf things I had lying around and eventually I came up with my Homeland Security Helmet.

As you can see, it has a video camera on the right side, two lights to illuminate the area in front of the user, a scrolling LED “billboard” which announces to passers-by that it is a Homeland Security Helmet and a blinking blue light on top to notify people that videotaping is in progress.

The Homeland Security Helmet could me made in quantity rather cheaply since it is composed of inexpensive elements and distributed to the populace in the interest of protecting America.

Brilliant! It encapsulates the do-it-yourself pioneer spirit of America!

Why rely on the bureaucracy of the government when you can protect yourself? If millions of Americans were to wear these helmets, terrorism would be stopped in its tracks.

Maybe but what a great idea for diseaster relief teams to keep track of each other as well as keep a “Live Track Record” of the events they are working on.
This is a great idea for more than just homeland security.
Build it and submit it to various organizations in Hazmat, Fire Department, FEMA organizations, Etc.
It would be extremely useful if it cound wirelessly transmit the audio and video to a remote location for archiving and investigative purposes.
One idea, how about night vision capabilities as well?
Either way, I think this application could have a lot of beneficial uses if it could be built inexpensively and compact enough to wear.

    BRAVO!

Clearly, this is the wave of the future. With a wireless connection, everyone keeps an eye on everyone else. Great for national emergencies, disasters, etc.

It is a shame how some people have to insult others. Obviously they have no creative insight nor talent to see any further than their own weak minds.
The mother of creation and many millionaires were the result of an idea or concept that everyone else scoffed at.
Instead of bashing people online how about coming up with your own creative ideas to share with others if that is not too insignificant of a request.
    Have a good day.

Add GPS, WiFi to take the video feed and archive/transmit it, and you got a real winner.

Here’s my issue: Big Brother. We will lose freedom for security? The price is too high my friends. While terrorists and the average citizens might be too scared to act with 24hr-every-common-man surveillance, the government would only be enticed to use the footage to further it’s own agenda and squash the individuality of the very citizens looking to our leaders for protection.

So, will you be voting for my invention, Rhi?

  8. isobot | May 19th, 2008 3:30 pm

Wow, nicely done, you are a genius. I love the straight face in the photo!
are you going to post the results of your work?

  9. Bob Pagani | May 20th, 2008 5:54 am

    You are very cryptic, Isobot.

I can see the wing-nut under the hat and it is a little loose.

    Please define “wing-nut.” Thank you.

I need one of these yesterday.

Video surveillance by common citizens has been shown to squash crimes in neighborhoods and help clean up disorderly conduct. I understand the fears that some people have about losing their right to privacy but in reality the only privacy lost is that which is on the public streets, a small price to pay for the protection and security of being able to go out without fear of being shot or robbed. The only way to take back our streets is by better surveillance and involvement by not just our government but our citizens as well.
The ability of our law and government agencies are stretched to the limit leaving a need for us to find a way to better protect our loved ones and our children.
This is only one additional way something like this could come in handy.
Let’s kick crime and drugs where it hurts the most…… In public view on video for the whole world to see just who the scum really is.
Video evidence is stronger than any eyewitness testimony given.

While some may fear that Big Brother is watching - with this helmet your neighbor is the one wathcing and reporting - this would create a new industry in the service sector of our economy as there will be banks and banks of live video feeds to monitor and report violations and possible violations to the proper authorities. As the old saying goes - if you have done nothing wrong - then you have nothing to fear - especially with the wide-spread distribution of this helmet and the economy produced by those monitoring the feeds.

Bravo - Big Brother is hear and he moves!!!

Welcome to the New HDTV, a transmitter as well as a receiver, you will be broadcast from your own living room without your knowledge. Take one of these tv’s apart and look for the mini camera installed in the upper left hand corner of your screen.

Fantastic Bob! Your invention is pure brilliance.

I don’t have the technical knowhow, but perhaps you could come up with some sort of vest to accompany your helmet which would contain an automatic plastic sheet and duct tape dispensing system. As you probably know those are the two most critical essentials in the event that the Homeland Security advisory level is elevated to red (severe).

Thank you for your patriotic pursuit of the safety and security of our democratic republic and it’s faithful citizens!

  17. Bob Pagani | May 30th, 2008 6:03 pm

Thank you, El Cabong. I’m glad that other Americans are serious about citizens taking responsibility for our safety rather than leaving everything up to government.

As the operator of brandlandusa.blogspot.com said:

“The point is that if we have a country filled with folks like Bob Pagani, no terrorist would dare take us on.”

    Amen to that.

This is a very great idea. It’s not only great for homeland security but it would be great for business advertising as well. The little billboard could read a business website on it. Should definitely make a few different colors for the helmet so the feminine crowd would be more inclined to wear them.

  19. Bob Pagani | June 8th, 2008 5:26 am

Pretty colors might be a good way to get women to wear the Homeland Security Helmet, Beth. My only concern is that fashionable colors might make the helmet less serious looking. While my prototype is white, I’m thinking that bright orange might be the best way to go for maximum visibility.

Well thats defenetely an idea. But I don’t think it will go too far in production. By the way they implemented taping in every new cell in US for the last few years. So if you have cell in the room they can defenetely hear you even if you turn it off (unless you’ll take out the battery of course). So Big Brother hears everything already, but not sitting on top of your head yet.

  22. Bob Pagani | July 7th, 2008 2:26 am

Oh by the way, since this website doesn’t seem to report it, I WON this contest! Yay for me!

  23. Glogger | July 10th, 2008 11:47 pm

Sousveillance (inverse surveillance). Great idea. If you get it transmitting live video you might want to join the ‘glogger network and share it with other video camera cyborgs (more than 28,000 cyborgs) on the glogger network.

  24. Alabamatom | July 14th, 2008 12:27 pm

    Congratulations Bob!
Hope to see more great ideas in the future.

  25. Bob Pagani | July 15th, 2008 5:02 am

I’m always thinking, Alabamatom. Thanks for the congratulations.
